Apple M6 chip arriving soon, here's everything we know

Specs and performance

According to available information, the M6 chip will bring several major improvements over the current M5 generation. Memory bandwidth will increase from 153 GB/s to 200 GB/s, significantly boosting on-device AI performance. The graphics part will have up to 12 GPU cores, two more than the base M5. This will result in smoother gaming, faster video rendering, and better performance in GPU-intensive applications.

Why the M6 is different

Since the M1 chip, Apple has always released higher variants Pro, Max, and Ultra. With the M6 generation, this will change. The company has decided to release only the base M6 model and skip all higher configurations. The reason is reportedly the upcoming M7 chip, which will bring an even bigger leap in AI performance and memory bandwidth up to 240 GB/s.

Release date and products

The M6 chip could appear as early as this year. Apple is testing it in an updated version of the base MacBook Pro, which currently uses the M5. It is unclear whether the M6 will also go into other devices. It is expected that most products will skip straight to the M7, which will be released in the first half of 2027.
