Apple Wallet car keys: GM to offer them for Cadillac and Chevrolet
General Motors has announced that Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC vehicles will get Apple Wallet car keys support. The digital key will first appear on a limited number of vehicles at the end of September 2026, the offering will expand in October, and more models will be added in December.
Apple first mentioned the feature in June 2025. GM has now confirmed that support will gradually continue on additional vehicles. When a particular car gets it, the customer will receive a notification in the "What's New" section of the vehicle's mobile app.
Apple Wallet car keys for GM: nine models
Nine models are set to gain support by the end of 2026:
- Cadillac: Vistiq (2027), Optiq (2026 to 2027), Lyriq (2025 to 2027), Escalade (2027), Escalade IQ/IQL (2027)
- Chevrolet: Suburban (2026 to 2027), Tahoe (2026 to 2027)
- GMC: Yukon (2026 to 2027), Yukon XL (2026 to 2027)
According to MacRumors, the vehicles will also support Google Wallet and Samsung Wallet. Samsung Wallet is to work in the USA and Canada. The same outlet reports that the car unlocks automatically when approached and locks when leaving. Through Apple Wallet, the trunk can be opened and the air conditioning turned on or off.
GM's digital keys use ultra-wideband and Bluetooth for secure proximity verification, MacRumors writes. The feature requires an iPhone 11 or newer (except iPhone SE 2, iPhone SE 3 and iPhone 16e) or an Apple Watch Series 6 or newer.
To set it up, you need to download and sign in to the vehicle's mobile app. Then, in a GM vehicle connected to OnStar with the physical key nearby, you follow the instructions in the app, MacRumors states.
