Samsung Galaxy Ring: FDA Approves Sleep Apnea Detection
Samsung announced during the Galaxy Unpacked event that its smart ring Galaxy Ring will receive FDA-approved sleep apnea detection this fall. It is the first and only commercially available ring with this certification.
Sleep Apnea Detection on Galaxy Watch and Now on Galaxy Ring
Samsung previously obtained approval for sleep apnea detection on the Galaxy Watch in Korea in 2023 and globally in 2025 after FDA approval. Now it brings this feature to the Galaxy Ring as well. The feature uses the BioActive sensor and AI algorithms for deeper analysis of breathing disturbances during sleep.
Health Significance
Sleep apnea is a serious health condition that can increase the risk of cardiovascular diseases such as hypertension, heart failure, or arrhythmia. The ability to detect it early using the Galaxy Ring can provide users with valuable information about their health.
The feature is expected to be available in fall 2025. The Galaxy Watch 9 already offers this feature and will provide first impressions before it arrives on the Galaxy Ring.
