RAMageddon Memory Shortage to Last Until 2030, Says SK Hynix
The RAMageddon memory shortage will last at least until 2030, according to SK Hynix. During its latest earnings call, the company stated that its production of DRAM and HBM memory is sold out through 2029. As reported by 9to5google.com, the global memory shortage is not expected to ease for at least another three years. RAMageddon refers to the worldwide shortage of memory chips.
RAMageddon Memory Shortage Until 2030
SK Hynix is already securing long-term agreements that cover more than 50 percent of the company’s total capacity for 2027 and 2028. The reason is demand, which is growing faster than production capacity. While SK Hynix, along with other manufacturers, is working to expand production, building the complex infrastructure takes time. The company noted that implementing cutting-edge processes and constructing new production facilities involve long lead times. As a result, it will not be possible to fully meet customers' volume requirements in the near future.
Micron and Samsung Face the Same Constraints
Micron previously stated that 2027 will be even tighter than 2026. While Samsung holds a larger share of the DRAM and HBM market than SK Hynix, it faces the same constraints, according to 9to5google.com. The memory shortage is not an issue for just one company. SK Hynix expects the situation, where supply fails to meet demand, to persist until 2030.
